"Miss Maine" is one of 765 Super 18 Models produced between 1953 and 1959. This 1959 E18S-9700 model introduced improvements of the Museum’s C-45H model that included: a six inch cabin height increase, new airstair door, new wingtips, larger cabin windows, higher tailwheel, new exhaust system, and increased structural strength in 300 parts including the center section truss. The -9700 option is characterized by the carburetor ram air scoops mounted under each engine, and Hartzell three-bladed propellers that replaced the two-bladed Hamilton Standard Hydromatic propellers.
Manufacturer’s number BA-453 was delivered in September 1959, as N435A, for customer Armco Steel Corp., Houston, TX, at a cost of about $130,000. Four owners later, in 1991, it was purchased by Alton “Chuck” Cianchette of Maine. His family has kindly loaned "Miss Maine" to the Museum.
